About Alithea

Hi, I'm Alithea!

I am a traditional artist who specializes in oil and gouache paintings based in Asheville’s River Arts District. My work focuses on capturing the beauty of animals and the natural world though expressive light, color, and detail. Inspired by the richness and complexity of nature, my work celebrates the living things that make life so meaningful.

I began my artistic journey by drawing horses, and they continue to draw me in to this day. I have expanded my work to include other subject matter, though horses continue to be at the heart of my practice.

My long-standing interest in Biology has strongly influenced my artistic perspective. Similar to how field researchers sketch their observations to document their findings, I aim to record the beauty around me while taking a more expressive and interpretive approach. Rather than focusing only on anatomy and structure, I strive to capture personality, presence, and the emotional connection we have with our animal companions.

Turning this passion into my profession has been an exciting and meaningful step in my journey.

I would love the opportunity to work with you to capture the unique personalities and spirit of your beloved pets.

Testimonials

  • "My husband ordered a commission of tiny birds from Alithea for my birthday and I was so happy when I opened them! They are so detailed, beautifully framed, and fit perfectly in my tea room. My husband said Alithea was amazing to work with in refining the vision for the piece. I'll definitely be ordering from her again!"

  • "I have developed a small collection of art from Alithea. Originals, prints, greeting cards and a few commissions. The commissions were of favorite pets, present and past and she captured each one perfectly. They brought me to tears. Her nature paintings come alive with her skill and technique. She breathes life into each piece. I'm a fan!"
